Taquka leaves it late

After winning with Crystal Lake (Verglas) at Windsor, a little over twenty four hours earlier, The Pickford Hill Partnership and trainer Ralph Beckett were, last night, back in the winners enclosure with another hard knocking three year old in the shape of Taquka (Kodiac).
A 15,000 GNS yearling purchase (Tattersalls '12) from Tally-Ho Stud, Taquka had looked progressive on polytrack throughout the winter, however his turf efforts had recently left something to be desired and after a dismal display in first time blinkers at York, the synthetic specialist was returned to his favoured surface.
Dismissed by the betting public at 33-1, Taquka overcame his wide draw to come with a well timed challenge under stable apprentice Patrick O'Donnell. He would have won by further had he found a gap earlier and was good value for the narrow margin.
Congratulations to all connections.
