Practising breaks maiden on Stateside debut
Posted on: 19th Jan 2014 by: McCalmont Bloodstock
Practising (Rail Link) was purchased for 6,500 guineas by Alex, at the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale and produced a fine debut effort to outrun her odds of 66-1, when running second at Sandown for Ralph Beckett. Practising then again ran second in a Doncaster maiden before Alex was able broker a deal with Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners. Practising was transferred to Paddy Gallagher's California stable and made a fine winning debut here, completing a fantastic double on the card for her new owners.

PRACTISING (GB) (f, 3, Rail Link --Beautiful Lady
, by Peintre Celebre) was second in both his debut
at Sandown Park and second attempt at Doncaster,
both last July for trainer Ralph Beckett. The 2-1 chalk
stalked the early pace from the four path. The bay
gradually improved her position, angled out about five
wide at the top of the straight, chased down One More
(Holy Bull) and hit the line a length in front. Practising
was the second new European import by Rail Link to
win on the card for Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners.

Birdlover looks set for big year
Posted on: 8th Jan 2014 by: McCalmont Bloodstock
Birdlover (Byron) was a private purchase on the back of her maiden win at Kempton in 2012. Subsequently a stakes winner for her new connections, Birdlover came back from a break to run well at the now defunct Hollywood Park. Strongly fancied to improve from that race, Birdlover was given a good ride by 'Hall Of Famer' Mike Smith and won a shade cosily. She will now be pointed to the Beuna Vista (Grade II) on 17/02/14 and could well develop into a top class filly in 2014.
